Blue lace agate is a member of the chalcedony family - a very hard semi-translucent stone most all of which commonly called agate or named according to color. Chalcedony is often associated with volcanic or metamorphic rock, the heat from which allows the hard, glassy property of agate as well as the micro crystallization that makes agate so interesting.
